Day 22: Praying for the exploited

By Gia Hughes
LIA Director of Human Trafficking Outreach

Read Genesis 37-50. Use these scriptures to fuel your prayers as you pray this week for those in "aftercare" for victims.

"And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you." - 1 Peter 5:10

We know that much time and many specific needs have to be met for rescued victims to be able to overcome the injustices that have been forced upon them. The care available to help rebuild these shattered lives is lacking. Early on in our research into human trafficking we found that there was only one such facility in the Southeast. But, wow, what a difference that one is making.

The Wellhouse, based in Birmingham, Ala., is a faith-based and Christ-centered nonprofit organization offering immediate shelter and transitional housing to women who have been trafficked, or prostituting, or otherwise sexually exploited. Food, clothing, spiritual guidance, Christian counseling, and other necessities are provided, along with assisting with referrals for substance abuse treatment, if needed. Life skills classes, GED preparation, and other enrichment services are part of the experience to help these women become self-sufficient and give them a sense of self-worth. The goal is for women to go on and live full and productive lives.

The Wellhouse is a beautiful place of grace offering the hope and healing of Jesus Christ to help restore lives. Find out more about them at http://the-wellhouse.org/ and keep up with them on Facebook here https://www.facebook.com/thewellhousesaves. Also, follow them on Twitter, @The_WellHouse. There are many ways you can help.

The demand for more shelters is a reality right now, and will continue to increase as we become a more aware and involved generation. Praise God! We look forward to working with the Wellhouse and learning from these who are fighting on the front lines of this battle.

Blessings!
