As
I was sharing scripture with the homeless, I asked, “Why is it called,
“Good Friday?” A woman responded in all honesty, “Because it’s payday?”
LOL. Needless to say, that was a great teaching moment, and I explained Good Friday.
It was a funny moment, but also sad, because she didn't have a clue why Good Friday is called Good Friday. Unfortunately, she's not the only one who is clueless about this weekend. Too often we take for granted the message of the cross and the resurrection. We take for granted that since we live in America, and in the buckle of the Bible Belt (South Alabama), everyone knows about Jesus and all He did to provide forgiveness for our sins and eternal life.
To Christians, John 3:16 is the most memorized verse of scripture, therefore we think everyone knows it. Not true. A well educated young man once told me he had no idea what John 3:16 was or what it meant.
We must not take for granted all Americans know Jesus. Sure, the vast majority of Americans have heard of Jesus, but many do not understand who Jesus is and why they should care.
That is why we must fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) Jesus gave us. If we don't, "go and make disciples" people will not know they can receive forgiveness of sins and receive eternal life.

Statistics
show two people die every second. That means 151,600 people
die each day. Do
we ever stop and think about where they are going? Did they know Jesus?
Are they in Hell? Do we even care? We should. Jesus allowed Himself to
be nailed to the cross for everyone.
Jesus says in Luke 24:46-47, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem."
We must proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone. Stop taking it for granted that just because we live in America everyone knows Jesus. They don't. Take time and pray for the lost. Pray specifically for family and friends who don't have a personal relationship with Jesus. Then go and tell them about Jesus. Show them Jesus by the way you live.
The Great Commission isn't a suggestion. It's a command from our Lord and Savior and King. Let's obey Jesus. Eternity is at stake. Jesus did it all for every "whosoever" in this world. That's every man, woman, boy and girl throughout the entire world. He's the only One worthy of all praise, honor and glory.
